Devara: Part 1 has shown weak points in many aspects, but the length of the film and its story completely disappoints you, however, Bahubali like suspense has been created at the end of the film so that it can be continued in Part 2. As always NTR is a pleasure to watch on screen and he has excelled in action and dance.
Storyline
Well, there are many parts of the story which suddenly change from place to place, but in this part the story starts in Mumbai from 1996 in which the Mumbai Police has reached Ratnagiri of Tamil Nadu to arrest a gangster ‘Yethi’. Who had come there to get his illegal goods taken out from the sea but then suddenly disappeared, while investigating this, the police comes to know that the people of Red Sea/Lal Sagar village used to take out the goods of ‘Yethi’ which is situated in the Ratnagiri mountains. Yethi learns about these villagers from a leader and smuggler, Murga, who is now dead.
Mumbai Police reaches the village to interrogate him where they meet a villager Singappa(Prakash Raj) who tells them about the glorious history of this village. There was a king in this hill of Ratnagiri who created an army of very powerful warriors to save his kingdom. They were supposed to protect the kingdom from any threat coming from the sea, time passed and when the British attacked the kingdom, these warriors faced them bravely and forced them to return back. These warriors established their families in this hill of Ratnagiri and started living here, time passed and the British left the country. These warriors are expert to fight in battle, so now there was nothing left to defeat them. Some bad people started taking advantage of this compulsion of the villagers and started extracting their illegal resources from them.
Now this is the second generation of warriors in the village who live in four different villages, the people of all four villages work together to support their families. Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) and Devara (Jr. NTR) are the heads of their respective villages, Devara (Jr. NTR) also continues to work with all the villagers but by doing so he is embarrassed. One day suddenly something happens that Devara (Jr. NTR) forbids all the villages from doing such bad things, and also warns of punishment to anyone who does so. Even after many attempts, Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) and his companions fail to get any of Muruga’s any consignment out of the ocean, which further increases hatred for Devara (Jr. NTR) in Bhaira’s heart.
Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) conspires to remove Devara (Jr. NTR) from his path and tries to eliminate him, but Devara (Jr. NTR) like a veer warrior foils all his attempts. After doing this, Devara (Jr. NTR) vows to protect the ocean from all evil people and disappears from there. After which all the villagers try hard but fail to find the means of smuggling in the sea. Due to which the fear of Devara (Jr. NTR) resides in all the villagers, but Bhaira still keeps planning to finish Devara (Jr. NTR) completely, for which he waits for twelve years.
On the other side, Devara’s family waits for him for years and remains hopeful that he will return someday. Devara’s son Vara (Jr. NTR) has also grown up in these twelve years but he is not a warrior and brave like his father. From here the entire film shows the attempts to eliminate Devara (Jr. NTR) in which you will get to see the twists.
Conclusion
The way the film is hyped, this film seems to have completely failed in justifying itself. While watching this film, you always wonder when it will end, without the unnecessary songs which are not needed, they help in increasing the length of the film. The point from which the film starts is actually in this part, nothing related to it has been shown, some twists have been introduced which perhaps were not necessary. The storyline of this film is not boring but due to the way it has been used in the screenplay, this film fails in keeping you hooked. Even in the last 45 minutes of this film, you get to see the essence of NTR’s character from the film Temper. Some scenes in the film did not seem promising and logical, like the scene of stealing the container from the ship was shown as if you were stealing a gift box, and Devara’s escape from the ocean waves did not seem logical at all.
As always, NTR shows his magic in action and also impresses in emotional scenes. Saif Ali Khan gets a lot of screen time in which he is shown to be strong, the writer has written the character of Bhaira very well. You may see Bhaira as a villain, but he is a villain who hates his enemy but not his family. Prakash Raj’s character Singappa explains the story of this film and he also knows the secret of Devara’s disappearance. Jhanavi Kappor has been kept in the film just to add a touch of glamor and to complete a song, nothing more than this has been done in the film.
If you are an NTR fan then of course you can watch this film and if you are not then you can watch it once again. This is a one time watch film, the OTT rights of this film are available to Netflix so soon you can enjoy it on OTT also.
