Storyline
Kalki 2898 AD is the story of the future where rivers have dried up, there is not enough oxygen in the air and the nature of humans has become like animals. This film is the story of the peak of Kalyug where some special people have created their own world on the basis of money and power which is known as Complex which has only one God known as Supreme Yaskin played by Kamal Hasan. Apart from the complex, people in the rest of the world are suffering from hunger and thirst, who live in the last city of the world, Kaashi, where if anyone wants to come has to pay a price which is called Units, which is currency in Kaashi.
Amidst such condition of the world, it has become difficult for women to get pregnant and Supreme Yaskin needs these pregnant women to multiply its power. To do this, Yaskin has made a serum, but this serum will be complete only when it is mixed with the plasma taken from a pregnant woman, for which all the scientists of Yaskin are experimenting on all the women in a lab whose name is Project K. Because in such a world it is difficult for any woman to remain pregnant for more than three months, hence Yaskin is facing difficulties in completing this serum.
On the other hand, among the women working in the complex, Sumati played by Deepika Padukone, who has become pregnant due to a scientific experiment but it has been more than 150 days, gets busy in saving her child and somehow Sumati escapes from the complex, and because of this, he meets the Rebels who live in a secret place Shambhala. Who consider this coming child to be KALKI, the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and try their best to save him.
Now all the bounty hunters of Kaashi set out to hunt Sumati, in which Bhairva played by Prabhas is at the forefront, who has a robotics car named Bujji. But he has no idea that he is going to face someone who is related to Mahabharat and is more powerful than today’s world.
Conclusion
Kalki 2898 AD gives you a Hollywood like experience in an Indian film, the VFX of which has been worked on with great effort and dedication. Just watching the credits of this 3-hour long movie will give you goosebumps and after seeing the scene of Mahabharata shown by director Naag Ashwin, there is only one wish that a film should be made on such a big book which will be popular in the whole world.
In the first 1 hour of the film, you are introduced to all the characters, which seems a bit heavy, including 1 unnecessary song, Disha Patani who played the character of Roxy comes for 15 minutes and then goes away. The character of Bhairava (Prabhas) may bore you a bit in the first half but in the second half you will get a surprise related to him, which increases your expectations further.
Deepika Padukone has created a deep arc with her powerful expression in the character of Sumati, who has also become a mother and to save whom many people are ready to give up their lives. Amitabh Bachhan ji’s part has primarily come in action but he has played the role of Ashavathama. Even at this age, you will be surprised to see such moves. In the film, you will see many famous faces doing roles that you would not have even expected and no one looks weak in terms of acting.
If you are fond of watching Hollywood films, then you will get to see glimpses of films like Star Wars, Dune, Madmax in this film, but the blast that director Naag Ashwin has created by combining Science and Mythology is really a milestone for Hindi cinema. You must watch this film in the theatre, and then you will have to wait for the next part, you can watch this film on OTT on Netflix in coming days, but we will tell you when.
