Freedom at Midnight – Impressive attempt to show partition politics to get Freedom.

Freedom at Midnight is based on book written by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre with same name. This series shows the price of struggle to attain independence, which has been presented very well by Nikhil Advani. After Rocket Boys, Sony LIV is another great historical drama which is a must watch.

Storyline

The story starts from 1946 when the British have agreed to leave India and want to establish a consensus between the Congress and the Muslim League, but Jinnah wants a separate country Pakistan under any circumstances and the Congress is not agreeing to the matter. Because of which some leaders of Muslim League work to instigate Muslims and due to which unrest and riots start in Bengal. About which it is known that Gandhiji is leaving for Bengal tour and on the other hand, Sardar Patel is trying to convince Nehru for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Britain appoints Mountbatten in place of Viceroy Wavell so that he can reach India as soon as possible and settle everything and from there all the British go back, and at the same time he announces that the British will leave India till June 1948.

On the other side, Saradar Patel and Nehru want to stop India’s partition by any means and hence they try to convince Jinnah in which they do not succeed. On one hand, violence has not stopped in Bengal and this day of hatred has reached Punjab in which thousands of people are killed. From whose face Sardar Patel finds the true face of making Pakistan, that is why he tries his best to convince Nehru.

Nehru did not accept this division of the country in the name of religion because he felt that it was against his and Gandhiji’s ideals. But the violence spread by Jinnah has caused so much pain that no other option is visible except war. Gandhiji has shown strong opposition to this information and for this he even met the Viceroy. But this attempt of Gandhiji also fails, after which one last option is left for the Viceroy. But in between all these hours, a lot of politics and diplomacy is going on which you will get to see in this series.

Conclusion

Sony LIV has come with another historical drama after Rocket Boys, Nikhil Advani has presented it very well. Till now we have seen a lot of films based on India’s independence in which sacrifice and sacrifice have been shown, but this series shows you a very interesting story of how the people sitting on the throne at that time were not only thinking about themselves but also about the country. Only sacrifices did not work to achieve freedom, while a lot of politics and diplomacy was also working behind the scenes, the founder of which was Sardar Patel. Today we are seeing Nehru and Patel from two different viewpoints, but in this series, a good rapport has been shown between the two, which is quite relaxing to see and it also seems a little bad in today’s narrative.

Gandhi ji impresses you in terms of acting, Chirag Vohra has played this role perfectly and shows Gandhi ji’s emotions and style of speaking in a wonderful way. Rajendra Chawla is also seen playing the role of Sardar Patel with great flair, but for the role of Nehru, Siddhant Gupta’s age is against him, otherwise he has played the role of Pandit Nehru in the middle phase of Politics and his principles, in which he has tried his best. Jinnah’s character played by Arif Zakaria is completely shown as a villain who wants Pakistan at any cost and feels himself suppressed under the influence of Gandhiji and Nehru.

Luke McGibney, who played the role of Lord Mountbatten, is also very impressive, although the character of Mountbatten is not shown the way it has been shown in other films. We still blame the British for Partition, but this series shows the necessity of confronting them in a good way. References to many scenes of the series have been taken from history and the real story behind the pictures that we see on WhatsApp is shown presently. The life of this series is its screenplay and casting which keeps you hooked after each episode, which you want to finish completely, and this series currently shows the incidents till June 1947. The next season is going to be even more interesting because it will show the rebellion of all the kings and the story of the creation of The Indian Constitution will also be shown.
