CTRL - Netflix presented a film by which clearly shows the dangerous aspects of today's digital age. This film tells about data security and the internet which has penetrated into our day to day life, how we are falling into the trap of social media and it has become a necessity in our lives.
Storyline
The story of the film is about a couple Ella (Ananya Pandey) and Joe (Vihan Samat) who have been friends since college and now their bonding has become very good. They shares every activity and important part of their life on social media as is the fashion of today, this has long become their habit and now they keep posting regular video vlogs. Due to their popularity, now they are also earning good money from brand collaborations and now perhaps this has become a way of life for them. Suddenly, while shooting the vlog, Ella learns something that leads to her breaking up with Joe.
Because now she and Joe have separated, now she concerned about her popularity and to wonder what content she will upload on her social media channel. Because she has broken up with Joe she wants to remove Joe from her digital content. To remove Joe from her digital content, she takes the help of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) application CTRL, which also helps her in doing other tasks like video editing, task scheduling, social media posting and many more. This AI application also talks to Ella and gives her responses, but gradually it takes control over Ella’s system. This application can also read all her messages and see all her photos because she has given permission to the application, now she has made CTRL a part of her life.
But suddenly one day she gets the news of Joe’s disappearance about which she tries to know more. She found out that Joe was working with a public interest tech group that was investigating data breaching on the internet. Finally, Ella investigates further and discovers some very deep secrets, which are related to a very big technology company.
Conclusion
Vikramditya Motwane has chosen a very sensitive subject which is related to our daily life, nowadays we all are surrounded by different types of applications which track all our information and store all our personal information. By using these applications, we are giving them additional access for which we do not fully understand the additional terms and conditions.
Ananya Pandey is in the lead role of the film who has played her part very well. Weakness has been shown at some places in the emotional scenes, but this does not show in the face of the film’s engaging story. The length of the film is perfect as per its story, which manages to keep you engaged.
