Vedaa is the story of overcoming the challenges of circumstances and making the most of them, this film shows the bitter truth of the Indian society which poses even more challenges for a girl. The film is based on such a social issue, John Abraham has made it quite effective with his strong action and Sarvari Bagh has made it quite effective with her excellent acting.
Storyline
This film tells the story of Vedaa, a girl from Badmer, a small town in Rajasthan, who is pursuing her graduation also wants to study and want to move forward but this becomes more difficult for her because she is a girl who belongs to the scheduled caste. This happens because the upper caste people of Badmer still faith in Indian caste system (VARNA), and they are also in power. The one who controls is Jitendra Pratap Singh who is the head of 150 villages of Badmer, and owner of every thing in Badmer. On the other hand, Vedaa is troubled by Jitendra’s younger brother and wants to stop him by any means, for which Vedaa applies to learn boxing in college.
Pradhan’s younger brother, who controls same college, stops Vedaa from doing so and gets her application rejected through his influence. But then in the story, Abhimanyu enters who has been court martialed from the Indian Army and has come to live with his father-in-law. Abhimanyu’s father-in-law, due to Pradhan’s influence, got the job of assistant coach in the same college. Abhimanyu, who has already lost his love, now his father-in-law is everything to him, but he is firm on his principles and is always ready to fight any battle.
Abhimanyu is also seeing the partiality happening with Veda but remains silent because he feels that one day Veda will defeat every man. But one day something happens with Veda that Abhimanyu cannot stop himself and gets ready to give coaching to Vedaa. Amidst all this, something happens to Vedaa’s family that she has to run away from city to save her life and Major Abhimanyu helps her in this. And then begins the struggle to survive, in which Veda and Arjun are on one side and Pradhan and his power on the other.
Conclusion
Vedaa is a raw representation of a simple story, which shows the difficulties of casteism and discrimination in Indian society. We must praise Nikhil Advani and John Abraham who decided to make a film on such a sensitive topic. Although India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day, this is still happening in some parts of India which are still slaves to the thoughts of the VARNA system. There are many such scenes in this film which will make you think, like in college Vedaa drinks water from a separate pot but other upper caste students drink water from water cooler, Vedaa is not allowed to learn boxing because of being just a girl. The dialogues of the film have been written very well, which makes them sound even better spoken by John Abraham. Although John Abraham has spoken very little like a macho man but the dialogues he has spoken seem quite powerful. John’s bold action and combat fighting scenes along with bold dialogues create a different kind of thrill. In the initial emotional scenes, John seems a little weak but in the climax of the film, John emerges victorious. This role would have been quite challenging and different for Sharwari Bagh as he got the package of emotions and action together. The transformation from a traditional girl to a fighter girl has been accomplished very well, who is ready to give the best for herself and her family. In the climax of the film, Sharvari surprises by her changed appearance. Abhishek Banarjee, who has played the role of Pradhan, is superior to everyone in the matter of acting. Despite being an average body villian, Abhishek never lost sight of John. It is good to see Ashish Vidyarthi in a negative role again after a long time and he has done the job brilliantly. The life of the film is its dialogues and action, its rawness is what makes the film special. If you want to see something other than comedy then you must watch this film. Although the climax of this film is a bit long, it could have been made a little shorter and gripping, but perhaps it would be the demand of the story due to which this was done.
